Rooted in Faith, Inspired by Casey

Casey’s Journey and Our Inspiration
Casey Whitmer lived life full throttle from the very beginning. Born in Houston to Donna and Ted Whitmer, he arrived into the world with urgency and never slowed down. Casey was all-in on life: playing hard, eating well, and getting into just enough trouble to keep things interesting. He was fiercely loyal, endlessly optimistic, and had a smile that lit up every room. Whether it was on the baseball field, hanging out with family and friends, or later during his cancer journey, people were drawn to Casey because of his warmth, generosity, and authenticity. He loved deeply, lived with purpose, and gave freely — not just of his time, but of his heart.
Casey had a talent for sports, especially baseball, which took him from high school success to college and into the minor leagues. He faced setbacks, including injuries that shifted his path, but he always moved forward with resilience and faith. After finishing college the University of Texas, he began a professional career, made lasting friendships, and continued to pour into the people around him.
His life took another unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with cancer in December of 2020. Even then, Casey showed the same strength, humor, and grace that had defined him from the start. He never let illness define him. Instead, he used his journey to reflect his faith and hoped others might come to know Jesus through his example. He fought hard, kept smiling, and continued to care more about others than himself.
Casey’s legacy is one of joy, grit, compassion, and unwavering faith. He lived with a purpose that extended far beyond himself, and he continues to inspire everyone who knew him.
Casey’s parents are Ted and Donna Whitmer, sister Carly Gonzalez and husband Eric Gonzalez, sister Kenzie Benden and husband Travis Benden (children Colt, Brantley, Joyanna, Rosalie), and brother Keith Whitmer and wife Reagan Whitmer (children Isaiah and Pierson).
Full Count: The Name
While Casey was going through cancer treatments, we began dreaming of a way to support other cancer patients and their families. As we brainstormed names that truly represented Casey and his journey, one idea stood out: Full Count.
In baseball, a full count is a pivotal moment—a test of resilience, determination, and grit. It’s the culmination of a battle, where every pitch counts and the outcome is uncertain. Casey knew that feeling well. His cancer journey was filled with ups and downs—moments of hope and victory followed by setbacks and challenges. He faced remission twice, and through it all, he never gave up. His famous phrase was always, “It’s All Good”!
Full Count is more than just a name—it’s a tribute to Casey’s fighting spirit and a reflection of the journey so many cancer patients endure. We understand the struggles and the triumphs, and we’re dedicated to helping others navigate their own full count moments with strength and support. activity booklets, financial aid, and heartfelt community outreach, we strive to meet both practical and spiritual needs.
Founding Story
While Casey was going through treatments, we noticed was how many patients sat alone during long treatments, with little to do to pass the time. That’s when Casey came up with the idea of creating an activity booklet—something that would not only entertain but also encourage.
The booklet would include coloring pages, journaling prompts, puzzles, QR codes linking to his favorite Spotify playlists, Bible verses, and uplifting devotionals. It would be a simple yet meaningful way to bring comfort and distraction during difficult moments. Our goal is to develop and print these booklets and distribute them to cancer clinics and hospitals, as well as make them available online.
As Casey’s earthly journey was coming to an end, the vision for the foundation became even clearer. For nearly three weeks, our family made daily trips to MD Anderson, often taking three or four cars. The unexpected non-medical expenses—like gas, meals, and cafeteria snacks quickly added up. To help cover the costs, my dad began passing around his credit card, which we jokingly called the “Sugar Daddy” card—a little humor that lightened our heavy hearts. Even in the darkest and most chaotic moments, God gave us moments of peace and a little humor that carried us through.
Going through that experience made us realize that many families struggle to cover unexpected expenses during treatment. It inspired us to focus our mission on two things: providing comfort through the activity booklets and offering financial assistance to help with the extra costs that come with a cancer journey.
